Good Woodworking Hardware is Important

TedsWoodworking Plans and Projects

When I first started wood working I would work for hours on end extensively measuring and planning out the details of how I was going to go about making my projects. I would sand away until every little visible chip or rough edge was completely diminished. Yet I was finding no matter how much work I would put into it, the finished product would always look a little cheap and quickly made. I couldn’t figure out what the problems were, the measurements were always dead on, every crack sealed in, and every bit of glue cleaned off.
Then, one day I inspected all of my creations, and realized I had been using dull cheap hardware. I realized that poorly made hinges, screws, and knobs can not only be aesthetically unpleasing, but will also run a much higher risk of receiving damage. After putting hours of hard labor and your own sweat in to something you have made, it’s a terrible outcome to see your work ruined by a faulty hinge. That’s why it’s important to always use the highest quality hardware you can find. Just dropping an extra dollar or two for your hardware can extend the life of the crafts you make extensively, is it really worth being stingy to have a shoddy finished product?
Not only will better made hardware extend the life of your projects, it will give them a very professional legitimate appearance, which is important to any woodworker who plans on selling or showing off his products. It took me a very long time to learn that nicer hardware makes all the difference in a finished project, don’t make the same mistake I did and waste your time with the cheap stuff!
